Recursos

The Real Supergate Cadence

The full ABA/UCI-style sequence with the spoken commands and the four-rung light ladder — red, amber, amber, green — timed against the recording rather than approximated by ear

Genuinely Random Hold

The delay between 'watch the gate' and the drop is randomised within a range you set. That randomness is the entire training premise: if you can anticipate it, you are not practising a start

Millisecond Reaction Timing

Reaction is measured from the drop signal against a monotonic clock, not naive timers, so it does not drift. Every start is graded and logged

History, Best and Trend

Your personal best, a rolling average and a reaction trend chart, all stored locally in SQLite so they survive restarts without an account

Four Modes

Gate Practice for the full sequence, Reaction Trainer for rapid repeats, a lap chronometer with splits, and a simple race manager with an editable podium

Simple Mode

One tap to a near-fullscreen light tree with nothing but play and stop — for when the phone is clipped to the gate and you are not there to read a settings screen

Works Fully Offline

No account, no login, no servers. Everything you record stays on your device, and the app is completely usable in airplane mode at the track

Five Languages, Light and Dark

English, Español, Português, Français and Deutsch, with a light and dark theme that follows your system appearance

About BMX Gate Start

Races are won in the first three metres. BMX Gate Start puts the real start sequence in your pocket so you can practise the only part of a race you can rehearse alone: the snap off the gate.

The app reproduces the supergate cadence riders actually hear — “OK riders, random start… riders ready, watch the gate” — followed by the light ladder and the drop. Then it tells you, to the millisecond, how long you took to react.

Why the randomness matters

Every other part of a start can be drilled. The hold cannot, because at a real gate it is deliberately unpredictable: the interval between “watch the gate” and the drop changes every time so that no rider can time it.

That is the single thing most start-practice tools get wrong. A fixed delay teaches you to count, and counting is exactly the habit that costs you a moto. In this app the hold is randomised inside a range you set, and it is randomised every run, so there is nothing to learn but the reaction itself.

How a start works here

  1. Arm the gate — the tree lights up and the cadence begins
  2. Listen — the commands play in sequence, on the real timing
  3. Watch the ladder — four rungs, red, amber, amber, green, lighting downward
  4. Go — the gate drops after a hold you cannot predict
  5. Read your time — measured from the drop, graded, and saved to your history

The four modes

Gate Practice — the full sequence, repeatable, with your reaction time after every run.

Reaction Trainer — rapid repeats with auto-repeat, a trend chart and your best, for when you want volume rather than realism.

Chronometer — a clean lap timer with splits and large, readable numerals you can see from a few metres away.

Race Manager — add riders, run a moto, then set the finishing order and save the podium. No accounts, no cloud, no sign-up — it is a clipboard, not a platform.

Simple Mode

Most of the time you do not want a settings screen. Simple Mode is one tap: the light tree fills nearly the whole display, and there are two controls — play and stop. Clip the phone to the gate, walk back, and ride.

Built for the track, not the couch

  • Offline by default. There is no network dependency for anything except ads. In airplane mode at a track with no signal, every feature still works.
  • Timing that does not drift. The sequence runs off a monotonic clock, and audio is pre-decoded at launch so the drop tone fires when it is supposed to rather than whenever the file finishes loading.
  • Readable in sunlight. High-contrast lights, heavy numerals, and a light theme that is genuinely light rather than a dimmed dark theme.
  • Haptics on the drop, so you feel the gate even with the phone out of view.

Privacy, plainly

We built this the way we would want a training tool built:

  • No account. You never give us an email address, because there is nothing to sign into.
  • No servers. Your reaction history, your saved races and your settings are on your phone. We do not have a copy.
  • No analytics, no crash reporting. We cannot see how you use the app. That is a deliberate trade — we get less product data, you get privacy that is true rather than merely promised.
  • Ads, disclosed honestly. The app is free and carries ads from Google AdMob. That is the one thing that sends data off your device: an advertising identifier, your IP address and basic device information. Consent is requested where the law requires it, and ad content is capped below the adult categories regardless.
  • An age question you can skip. Asked once, neutrally, and changeable later. Answering “under 13” permanently tightens ad treatment on that device. Skipping keeps the standard 13+ settings.

Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Who it is for

  • Riders drilling starts between track sessions
  • Coaches running gate practice for a squad
  • Parents timing a kid’s reaction in the driveway
  • Race organisers who need a chronometer and a podium sheet that works without signal

Safety note: BMX Gate Start is a training aid. Use it where it is safe to ride, follow your track’s rules and marshals, and never mount a phone anywhere it could interfere with your bike or your landing. The app’s timing is accurate for practice; it is not a certified timing system and must not be used to score a sanctioned race.
