Flare Privacy Policy

Introduction

Flare ("the app") is developed by Grisu Studio. Flare is a symptom diary, so what you put into it is among the most sensitive information there is — and this policy is short for the reason that matters: the app has no account, no server of ours, and no third-party SDK watching you. Everything you write is stored on your own device and stays there. There is nothing to transmit, because there is nowhere to transmit it to.

Scope

This privacy policy applies solely to the Flare mobile application.

Data We Collect

Stored on your device only, never transmitted to us: your episodes (start time, optional end time, an optional self-reported severity from 1 to 10, and any notes you type); the symptoms and the factors you define yourself; every time you log one of those factors; and your settings — language, appearance, haptics and the look-back window the patterns screen uses. Nothing else is recorded. Flare reads no sensor, uses no camera or microphone, requests no location, touches no contacts or photos, and has no field anywhere in its database for your name, email address or date of birth. Collected by anyone else: nothing. Flare contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK, so there is no advertising identifier in this app, no consent form and no tracking prompt. The only network-capable component in the binary is the platform in-app-purchase bridge, which asks Apple or Google whether you own Flare Pro and is told nothing whatsoever about your diary.

How We Use Your Data

Your diary is used to draw the app: the home dial and the calendar strip, your history, the patterns screen and the report. All of that computation happens on your device. The patterns screen counts what you logged in the hours before an episode and compares it with how often you log that thing generally; it states observations about your own log — "you logged this within 12 hours before 7 of 9 episodes" — and never a cause, a diagnosis or a recommendation, and it refuses to report anything at all when there is not enough logged to be meaningful. We do not analyse your usage, because there is no analytics service in the app and no server that could receive one. Advertising: there is none. That was a deliberate decision — a banner beside a screen where somebody is describing a pain flare-up is a bad trade for a few cents, and going without one lets this policy make a simple claim instead of a qualified one. There is nothing here to opt out of.

Children's Privacy

Flare is a general-audience health diary, listed for teens and adults, and it is not directed to children. It does not ask your age and it has no age gate, because nothing in the app would behave differently depending on the answer: there is no advertising to restrict, no advertising identifier to withhold and no tracking prompt to suppress. Asking for a birth year in order to make no decision with it would be collecting personal data for nothing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age — the app has no account, no messaging, no upload and no mechanism by which anything you write could reach us. A parent or guardian setting the app up for a young person should know that everything logged is held only on that device, and is deleted with the app.

Data Security

Because we run no servers and hold no database, there is no copy of your health record anywhere for anyone to lose, breach or subpoena. Your diary lives in the app's private SQLite database on your device, protected by the operating system's sandboxing and by whatever device encryption you have enabled. Apple's App Store guidelines steer health data away from general-purpose cloud storage; local-only is both the compliant answer and the honest one. PDF and CSV exports are generated on the device, written to the app's own cache directory and handed straight to the system share sheet — where the file goes next is your decision, made in an operating-system screen the app cannot see, and nothing is uploaded in the process. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes everything it holds.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We will update this policy whenever the app's behaviour changes in a way that affects it, and the "Last Updated" date above will change with it. If Flare ever gained a feature that sent anything off your device, that change would be described here and in the release notes before it shipped. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Questions, corrections or a request to delete data: email support@grisu.co with "Flare privacy" in the subject. Because your diary is held on your own device and nowhere else, a deletion request is fulfilled by deleting entries in the app or uninstalling it — we hold nothing to delete on our side, and we will say so plainly if you ask.
