Über MotionLab

A sport-biomechanics measurement tool built on the phone's own accelerometer. Capture a countermovement jump or a squat, run it through a filtering and integration pipeline that is unit-tested against synthetic signals, and read out peak force, peak velocity, peak power, flight time, jump height and rate of force development — with the method that produced each number shown next to it. Zoomable force-time, velocity-time and acceleration-time curves, CSV and JSON export, and CSV import so you can re-analyse data you already have.

Funktionen

A Verified DSP Pipeline

Gravity removal, configurable low-pass filtering and numerical integration, tested on synthetic signals with known integrals so the maths is provably right

Metrics With Their Method Shown

Jump height from flight time and from impulse-momentum are different numbers; the app tells you which one you are reading

Professional Plots

Force-time, velocity-time and acceleration-time curves with zoom, pan, phase markers and peak annotations

Trials, Not Just Numbers

Every capture is a named trial you can keep, discard or re-run, stored with its full sample record

CSV And JSON Export

Clean, plot-ready output shared straight from the app

CSV Import

Re-plot and re-analyse data you captured elsewhere — the feature the tools this replaces do not have

The maths is the product

Anything can print a number after a jump. The question is whether the number means what it says. MotionLab’s signal pipeline — gravity removal, low-pass filtering, integration from acceleration to velocity — is written as pure functions and tested against synthetic signals whose true integrals are known. If the filter or the integration drifts, a test fails before you ever see a wrong force reading.

Two jump heights, both shown

Flight time and impulse-momentum give different jump heights, and they disagree in informative ways. Rather than picking one and hiding the choice, MotionLab shows both with the method labelled, so you can compare like with like across sessions and across athletes.

Your data leaves in a format you can use

Export is CSV and JSON, formatted for plotting rather than for lock-in, and import takes CSV back so a trial you captured last season can be re-analysed with today’s settings. Nothing is uploaded in the process — export hands the file to your system share sheet and stops there.
